Many projects launch with relatively modest circulating supplies — a design choice that creates the appearance of scarcity and supports high initial valuations. A token that lacks genuine utility within its ecosystem is, by definition, a speculative instrument dependent entirely on sentiment for its value. This is not inherently disqualifying — speculation is a legitimate market function — but it becomes a structural failure risk when the token's design creates artificial demand that cannot be sustained.

Evaluating whether a token has genuine demand drivers — fee capture mechanisms, burn schedules tied to protocol revenue, or access rights to services with demonstrated user demand — is essential to distinguishing projects with durable economic foundations from those built on circular incentive structures.
